Katarina Witt started skating when she was five. Then, her talents became apparent, and then in Karl-Marx-Stadt she entered the school that was specifically made for kids who have athletic talents. Her coach Jutta was also in attendance. Her breakthrough year was in 1982 when she finished 2nd at the World Championships in Copenhagen. Since then her elegance and grace captured the eye of all. She began to dominate this sport. Olympic victory Katarina Wit won gold in ice skating for women at Sarajevo Winter Games 1984. Sarajevo Winter Games 1984 after a fiercely competitive competition. It was her victory from four years prior that was a bit more tense. The free skate she took was an unbeatable loss. However, her gold medal resulted from the performance she put at both mandatory figures (short program) and the compulsory figures. Witt was the only female since Sonja Haenie to be an apex figure skater. Hall of Fame After enjoying success as an actress, Witt returned to the sport in the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games. The team finished seventh, but she wowed fans despite not winning a medal. Witt was elected into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 1995.
